

In the just-finished Test series, Bharat too had a hard time establishing himself as a batter. It’s interesting to note that during the fourth Test match between India and Australia, the 29-year-old wicketkeeper was criticized on-air by former India head coach Ravi Shastri and renowned batsman Sunil Gavaskar for missing a simple catch.

In the first game of the series in the Border-Gavsakar Trophy versus Australia, Andhra star Bharat played his first Test. While the absence of Bumrah allowed Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Uadav to support experienced pacer Mohammed Shami, Pant was replaced by KS Bharat, who remained India’s first choice behind the stumps for the duration of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Team India under Rohit Sharma advanced to the championship match of the showpiece for the second consecutive year despite being without the services of superstars Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant in the latter stages of their ICC World Test Championship campaign.
